Village Bowlers Show Off at Village Lanes

Rachel Zimmer, President of the All-Star Coed Classic league at Village Lanes and Eric Serfort tied for the top spot in this year's League Officer sweeper held at Village Lanes in Monona. Zimmer, who averaged 191 in two leagues at Village last season, fired an impressive 670 scratch set and added 82 pins handicap for a 752 total. Serfort, who averages 227, bowled the tournament high scratch series of 752.

The duo edged out fellow Village Lanes bowler Dave Allen, who rolled a 708 scratch series for a 750 total.

Kevin Milestone and Tony Pena, President and Secretary of the 300 Club league at Spartan Bowl in McFarland both cashed in the tournament. The 187 average Milestone shot 644 for a 738 total - good for fourth place. Pena, a zero handicapper, rolled a 727 scratch set and finished tied for sixth with MBA Director and Wednesday Night Classic (Viking Lanes) secretary Don Aslakson. Don, also a 191 average player, shot 645 scratch.

Tim Reithmeyer, MBA Director, filled the fifth place spot between the 300 Club officers with a 712 scratch series and 737 total.

Linda Kilgore, a Director with the MWBA came in eighth place with a 595 set and 723 total.

Rounding out the cashers were MBA President Z. Charles Reithmeyer with 628 / 702 and Dave Moller of the Waunakee Suburban league at Waun-A-Bowl with 569 / 702.

This year, a total of 18 dirty, rotten, stinking, lyin', cheatin' bowlers were able to extract a free drink chip from the clutches of MBA association manager Bill Dennis who mustered a pedestrian 675 off of a 222 average.

Although seven of the ten cashers may have had some home field advantage, having booked an average in a league there last year, simply owning the court apparently has little to do with bowling prowess. Kevin Carey, President of the Mixed Majors League at Badger Bowl and A League of Our Own at Village Lanes, and owner of Village Lanes rounds out the field of 49 with a gritty 424 set. Of course, Robert Kraft is a heckuva NFL owner and never played a down.

Full disclosure: In Kevin's defense, he was nursing an obviously very sore hip and should be commended for toughing it out - though it couldn't have been anywhere near as sore as my wrist was after shooing away all the moths that flew out of my wallet.

See you next year!
