Bill Burns, secretary of the Verona Businessmen and M&M Mixers leagues at Wildcat Lanes
came out on top with a outstanding 761 series - including a 300 game. Tony Pena, secretary of the 300 Club
league at Spartan, flirted with perfection himself the first game - running the first 10 strikes.
Char Clementi, president of the Towne Gypsies League at Schwoegler E.C. came in second with a very nice 645
series, and a 750 total. Doug Leikness, who also secretaries two leagues - the OM Friday Night Couples, and the
OM Cubed Leagues at Dream Lanes - had the second high scratch series of the day with 741. MBA Past President
Jerry Wilson rolled a solid 570 set to take fourth place at 729. He was followed by Joe Duarte, President of
the OM Friday Night Couples league, who posted a 719 total.
Last year's cellar dweller, and current MBA President, Z. Charles Reithmeyer redeemed himself with 640 scratch
series for a 711 total and sixth place. Defending champion Mike Lien, President of the Big Eight League at
Bowling Green landed in seventh place with a 605/710 total.
Pena ended up in eighth place with 659/698, followed by Oregon Bowl's Women's Night Owls league secretary
Dorothy Milestone (504/697).
Rounding out the top 10 were MBA Association Manager Bill Dennis (685/693) and Delmar Riemer, President of the
Bristol League at Prairie Lanes (551/693).
This year, the "I should really come back again next year to redeem myself because I must have left my
strike ball in my other bag - there really can be no other explanation for this!" award winner was Kevin
Carey, President of the Mixed Majors League at Badger Bowl and A League of Our Own at Village Lanes. Kevin
mustered a 422 series for a 521 total. Good luck next year, Kevin!
In all, the top 10 bowlers were able to earn a bonus drink chip, a bounty offered to anyone defeating the
Association Manager. (Fortunately, I was able to offset some of that expense with my prize winnings for my tie
for 10th place.)
Congratulations to all the cashers and thank you for participating. Thanks also to the MWBA for organizing and
running the event, and to Spartan Bowl for hosting. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to competing again
next year.
