Award Changes for 2010-11 Season
All of the awards are the same for the upcoming season. The 300 game and 800 series plaques will have a new look, according to an Association Operations E-Newsletter from USBC. Sneak Peek?
The big news is the changes in average requirements to earn a magnet recognition award. The MBA office processed over 11,500 special achievement applications in the 2008-09 season. Last year, the USBC tightened up the average requirements to earn an award - resulting in about a 75% drop in magnet awards.
This coming season, however, the metronome swings BIG the other direction. Most awards are available to bowlers with even higher averages than the 2008-09 season.
For example, to earn a 200 game magnet in 08-09, a bowler had to average 160 or less. In our association, this resulted in 1,376 200 game achievements. Last year the 200 game award was only available to bowlers averaging 145 or less. The MBA processed 'only' 297 awards in this category - nearly 1,100 fewer. For the 10-11 season, the award will be available to all bowlers averaging 175 or less.
Right away, this brings about hundreds of new eligble bowlers into the equation - bowlers averaging between 160 and 175 - bowlers more likely to roll a 200. The MBA estimates 2,300 of these magnets will go out the door this year.
And, that's just one award. With practically every league computerized and the awards process automated, the over/under for achievements this year is set at 15,000 - more than double our membership count.
