Prairie Lanes will host the annual MBA Championship Tournament (City Tournament) next month. Entry forms will be distributed to centers this weekend, and mailed to all participants from last year. You can download your entry right away by clicking here.
Tournament squads will be 12:00 and 3:30 on Saturdays, January 7, 14, and 21; and 10:00 and 1:30 on Sundays, January 15, 22, and 29.
There will be three divisions again this year; Scratch, Division 1 (1000 and up) and Division 2 (999 and under). Last year 91 teams participated - is this the year for 100?
Stop-N-Go Convenience Centers return as the tournament Title Sponsor. Bowl-A-Vard Lanes and Rob Bailey's Pro Shop are also back to support the event as Major Sponsors. Rob Bailey also provides the bowling balls for tournament raffles. Early discussion indicates it could be the new Storm Nano.
Long time tournament supporter Schemm Bowling Inc. is staying on as well. The MBA and its members appreciate the support of our sponsors, who will again add over $4,000 to the City Tournament and MBA Masters.
The tournament will once again be held on a USBC White pattern, a condition that proved very popular at Schwoegler's Entertainment Center last season. There are no major changes to the City Tournament format to report for this year.
The team event is only $20.00 per person to enter, and it is fully handicapped 100% to 230 - making the tournament primarily an over average contest.
Organize five bowlers from the same league and enter the "League Challenge" - a FREE over average contest exclusively for league teams. Cash in the tournament as normal, and possibly win a portion of a separate $1,000 prize fund for your league.
Organize eight teams, skip the raffle, and get a new ball.
We will also run the "Captain's Raffle" again this year. Each team captain will receive a raffle ticket for a special bowling ball give away on February 4 during the Masters. Last year, we gave away three bowling balls to team captains - THANK YOU for organizing a team!

The fourth annual MBA Masters will be at Prairie Lanes on Saturday, February 4 at 12:30 p.m. Check-in for the tournament begins at 11:30.
The tournament format remains the same with competition on a USBC Blue pattern and six games of qualifying followed by a top five stepladder finale.
With the loss of Dell as the major sponsor, the tournament director has increased the entry fee to $50.00 (from $40.00). The entire difference will be seen in the prize fund. The MBA hopes to supplement the remainder of the fund to produce a prize list similar to last year. The payout ratio of 1:3 remains the same.

Sorry, no retroactives!

The USBC announced a new replacement policy for damaged and broken awards, as well as those that may have been lost in the mail or not received. In some cases, there is a 30 day limit from the ship date for an award to be replaced without cost to the bowler or the association. The old limit, according to the USBC National Association Policy Manual was 90 days.

Under the new policy, it would be up to the bowler to contact the MBA or USBC within 30 days of shipping of the award. We feel this is too narrow a window given the number of extenuating circumstances that could arise between shipping and receipt. Further, every bowler would have to be aware of the policy in the first place AND know the shipping date.
Therefore, all major awards earned in the MBA will now be shipped to the local office and inspected. At no time do we want the cost of a USBC award to be passed to the bowler, if possible.

This year, a total of 18 dirty, rotten, stinking, lyin', cheatin' -*awesome (sorry, autocorrect) bowlers were able to extract a free drink chip from the clutches of MBA association manager Bill Dennis.
Rachel Zimmer, President of the All-Star Coed Classic league at Village Lanes and Eric Serfort tied for the top spot in this year's League Officer sweeper held at Village Lanes in Monona. Zimmer, who averaged 191 in two leagues at Village last season, fired an impressive 670 scratch set and added 82 pins handicap for a 752 total. Serfort, who averages 227, bowled the tournament high scratch series of 752. The duo edged out fellow Village Lanes bowler Dave Allen, who rolled a 708 scratch series for a 750 total.

Seppa led qualifying by 112 pins over the next qualifier, with games of 234, 225, 222, 245, 250, and 224 - on a day when 200 was very good and not very common.
The 2011 event was conducted on USBC Blue Pattern #3, the highest volume and shortest of the Blue patterns.
