Last season, individual recognition was hard to come by. For the 2010-2011 season, there are changes to the recognition program. Recognition magnets will be streaming out of the bowling office in record numbers.
Average requirements for Adult special achievement awards have been modified to increase the amount of bowlers that will earn them.
Take a look at the average requirements to earn different awards over the last three years.

Come Bowl With Us!
On Friday, August 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes, the Madison USBC Bowling Association and Madison USBC Women’s Bowling Association will conduct the annual Hall of Fame Pro-Am / Celebrity Tournament.
This event was founded and formerly run by MBA Hall of Fame Member Mark Henry. It has been an overwhelming success due to Mark’s capable leadership, and we hope to continue the legacy.
Brian Olson and Gary Cannalte will be back to slug it out for the the "pinbrella" trophy in the annual Weatherman's Challenge. Channel 15's weekend meteorologist Chuck Koch is taking up the challenge as well. The four 2010 MBA and MWBA Hall of Fame inductees will be on hand, as will 2010 Madison Sports Hall of Fame inductee Greg O'Brien. A number of association dignitaries and local proprietors round out the celebrity line-up. See who is bowling so far here.
The All-Star line-up includes some of the finest bowlers in the association from last season, and a number of MBA and MWBA Hall of Fame members will be there.
Download an entry form and join us in this great tournament and fund-raiser. You might make a few bucks, but most importantly, you will be supporting the future of bowling
This year proceeds are slated to establish three new youth scholarships, with the balance of the proceeds to be donated to Hospice. Last year the event raised $1500! This year we plan to do much better.
This tournament is a “Pro-Am” style of event, with the “Pro” as a team of three individuals; an MBA or MWBA Hall of Fame bowler, an area male, female, or youth All-Star bowler, and a celebrity team captain. Each “Pro” team will bowl three games on three different pairs of lanes, matching up with several different tournament entrants.
• USBC Certified – All entrants must be certified.
• Bowl three games on the same pair of lanes.
• Each game you will bowl with a different team consisting of an MBA or MWBA Hall of Fame bowler, a Madison area All-Star Bowler, and a celebrity team captain.
• A minimum score of 200 will be received for all of your teammates.
• Handicap is 100% of 230.
• Your total score will be added to the totals of your three team’s scores.
• 1 in 5 adult bowlers will cash.
• The top three youth bowlers will receive plaques

Where Does My $20.00 Go?
Fair question! When you pay your annual membership fee, you are helping to preserve and grow the sport of bowling. It doesn't just go into an envelope and disappear forever. It goes to work!
$10.00 of your fee goes to the USBC and $10.00 stays here in the MBA.
At the national level, the USBC creates a fair game for all of us to play - rules are important whether you bowl seriously or just for fun. Bowling achievements are recognized, the rules and equipment are standardized, and work is done to foster the growth and future of bowling.
Each year, over $8 million in scholarships are awarded annually through the USBC SMART program. In 2009, the USBC raised $1.1 million for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fund breast cancer research.
There are national tournaments, coaching certifications, registered volunteer programs, and a lot more.
Locally, your association provides a growing number of local tournaments to compete in - from the fully handicapped City Tournament and Senior City Tournament to the top end Masters and Senior Masters.
Our local Susan G. Komen event raised over $6,000 last year. Our annual Hall of Fame tournament will help youth bowlers with scholarship money. Other tournament opportunities and fund raising initiatives are in the works.
We inspect every lane bed in the city to ensure each is within specifications. We are available to help you improve your league experience, solve problems, help set up or promote a bowling tournament or fund-raiser (3,800 people subscribe to this newsletter), or present achievement awards.
Want Your $20.00 Back?
It's easier now than ever - As a USBC member, I have personally saved WELL OVER my $20.00 annual fee by using the USBC Member Rewards program for purchases that I would make anyway.
Click the Member Rewards logo on the left. Here's a hint - once you get there, click on the Perkspot link (or Click Here).
Sign up with Perkspot and you will find many useful savings. The restaurants are my favorite.
THANK YOU
Thank you for supporting bowling. Whether you realize $20.00 worth of value yourself or not, your support is still important and appreciated.
You may not bowl in tournaments, but the opportunity is there for you to try someday.
You may not get a 300, but you never know.
You may not have kids earning scholarship money by bowling, but maybe your friend or coworker does.
You may not know someone whose life was touched by breast cancer, but you are helping those that do.
The USBC and the MBA work hard to improve the sport of bowling every day. It's the little things that are working in the background - the rules, the certified lanes, a solution to a problem with a phone call, a small recognition award presentation, a chance to support a cause - these are the things you support with your membership fee.
You don't have to be good to get a lot out of bowling, and you don't have to give a lot to do good for bowling.
Your $20.00 works!
