Senior City Tournament
The annual Senior Association Championships are scheduled to start next weekend; starting October 25 and 26 and running through November 9. Entries are starting to come in to the bowling office, but there are still plenty of open squad times available.
The host center for this year is Middleton Sport Bowl - likely the nicest 10 lane bowling center in the country, and certainly conducive to some good scoring. Sport Bowl led the association in average last season.
The tournament is open to all certified members of the Madison USBC Bowling Association ages 55 and over at the time of bowling.
Two squads will be available nearly every day of the tournament at 11:00 or 2:30.
Entry forms are available in area centers or online through the MBA website via the link below.

Regular City Tournament Entries Out Soon
The final details of the 2008-09 City Tournament are being ironed out, so entry forms will be appearing in area centers by November 1.
Details on new features in the works, include a "bounty" offered to the top finishing teams representing leagues in the city.
The premise is simple. Send a team from your league to the City Tournament and - in addition to qualifying for the standard prize list - they might earn a nice check made out to your league!
This season, the tournament will be held at Rude's Lanes in DeForest (team event, Masters) and Waun-A-Bowl in Waunakee (minor events).

Black Earth Gets First Certified 300 Game
Bob Leary, bowling in the Black Earth Businessmens League, shot the first certified 300 game in the history of Black Earth Lanes. Leary's series totaled 745 - also a high for the center, according to owner Larry Kahl.
Kahl noted that there has been an uncertified 300 game in the past, bowled in the popular Home Talent Tournament held annually at the center.
Near misses (certified) in the center include 299 games by Paul Brunner and Marty Barsness, and a 298 by Daniel Hering.
Congratulations to Bob Leary for making history!
Halloween Scottish Doubles Tournament
Village Lanes in Monona will host their annual Halloween Scottish Doubles Tournament on Saturday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m. - check in at 7:30 p.m. This tournament is designed to be a lot of fun and it was certainly successful last year.
The cost per couple is only $25.00 and you could win up to $200.00 if there are 36 entries. One in eight will cash.
There will also be a DJ from 9:30 p.m to 1:30 a.m., no cover charge, and drink specials.
Call Village Lanes at 222.7361 for details and to make your reservation.

What's The Rule?
Many questions are asked at the bowling office regarding league rules. "What's the handicap? "When bowling unopposed, when can the lead-off bowler start the next frame? "How much prize money should go to the winning team?" "Can we have a female sub in our men's league?"
The answer to every one of these questions is, "Depends."
No, not the product. Really, each one of these questions is often answered in your league rules. The USBC rule book provides many options for leagues to modify their own rules to suit their own needs.
Do You Have Your League Rules?
Per USBC rules, each team captain is to be provided with a copy of their league rules by the league secretary. If your team captain does not have one - ask for it.
The bowling office provides two copies of the USBC rule book to each league, one for the President and one for the league Secretary. Copies are also provided to each center for distribution to interested bowlers. Additional copies are available at the bowling office - just ask!

Ask the Pro Shop
The MBA presents a new feature to the MBA E-News - "Ask the Pro Shop".
The sport of bowling is a lot different in this technological age. It used to be a bowler could wander down to the alleys on league night with a single ball and pretty much expect the same thing every week.
Today, bowling is a much more technology enhanced game. How do you take care of modern equipment? How do you know what ball or drilling is right for you and your game? Why do I keep leaving 10 pins and what can I do about it?
Submit your question to Ask the Pro Shop using the link below. Selected questions will be featured in future MBA E-Newsletters.
