Minor Events Begin, Leader Board Shakeup in Week Three
Doubles and Singles events began this past weekend at Minor Events host Bowling Green. Interesting scoring took place, to say the least. On the one hand, perennial contender and MBA Hall of Fame member Jeff Richgels rolled consecutive series of 611 and 774. Gregg Williams followed a sub 600 doubles effort with a perfect game. It wasn't feast or famine for everyone, though. Overall, a number of individual were able to put together some great series to set early paces.
Tom Gullickson paired up with his son Drew for doubles and tossed a 1,364 set - 110 pins over average. The series included a 523 first game. In Division Two, League Officer Sweeper champion Mike Lien fired a 686 series in doubles to pilot himself and teammate Troy Kalscheuer into first place with 1,302 - 102 pins over average. Ken Duffield and Brian Hoffman put together a 1,383 set in Declared Scratch Doubles. The overall scratch doubles lead is currently held by Randy Johnson and Paul Beckman, who had 1,390 scratch in Division One.
Bob Krembs, representing the Wisconsin Telephone League, fired a 77 pins over average 680 series to take the early lead in Division One singles. League teammate Chad Brantmeier came up a ten pin short of a perfect game with a 299 in his doubles set. Doug Babler of Schwoegler Sugar River Lanes had a 290 middle game and a 694 scratch series to top all Division Two bowlers at 106 pins over average. Richgels 774 far and away leads Declared Scratch singles.
In All Events, Tom Gullickson leads Division One with 2,169, 99 pins over average. Don Gmeinder leads Division Two at +126. The 191 average Gmeinder had a nice 652 set in doubles and a 644 in the team event. Casey Gibney of Viking Lanes leads Scratch All Events with 2,144. Gibney's series were incredibly consistent - 715(t), 714(d), and 715(s).
New leaders are found in every category of the Team event at Middleton Sport Bowl. Street Rags DL team members Dan Lockman, Mark Oyan, Ken Smith, and Hall of Fame members Jesse Parizo and Dave Rasmussen are the new Scratch leaders with 3,548. Dave Rasmussen led the way with the tournament high series to date, a 776. Parizo addded 742, Smith 717, Oyan 666, and Lockman 647. The 200 pins over average effort is enough to take the lead in the League Challenge and The Proprietor Cup.
In Division One, Team Canadian Club, captained by tournament Sponsor Don Bussan of Bowl-A-Vard Lanes, is the new leader with a +155. The team was led by Carey Emerson's 754 and Bussan's 719. The new Division Two leader is Shane n' Bake from Viking Lanes. Ben Kojo and Joe Ryan fired 702 and 732 to lead the team to 161 pins over average. They are also currently in second place in the League Challenge.

Few Teams, Lots of Action in Week 2 of City Tournament
The MAST held their annual doubles tournament at Middleton Sport Bowl Saturday the 16th, so only two shifts of bowling were held this weekend on Sunday. Each shift had only two teams signed up on top of that - the opposite of the upcoming weekend where there are only two spots left available.
This didn't stop some shakeups on the leader board, though.
Team 10 from Schwoegler's, captained by Craig Zirbel, moved into the top spot in Division 1 with a +145 over average performance. Tom Bates led the team with a 708 set, followed closely by Zirbel with 702. Team 10 is also a League Challenge team, currently leading in the competition for a slice of a special $1,000 prize fund.
Brittany Pollentier piloted Winking Eyes to second in the standings (+65) with a tournament leading 762 series on games of 279, 204, and 279. Leann Butts threw her second 700 series of the tournament with a 703.
Defending champions Turbo 2-n-1 Grips are participating in the new Declared Scratch Division this year and have set the mark at 3486, eclipsing the 3411 of Team EBI. Kevin Thompson also threw his second 700 series of the tournament with a 728. Jeff Prein added 702.
Minor Events gets underway at Bowling Green Rec Center this weekend.

City Tournament Week One in the Books
The first weekend of the Team Event is in the books.
Scores were more moderate than expected with only two of the nine teams competing able to bowl over team average.
Eamus Catuli, captained by MBA Director Bob Eveland, takes the early Division 2 lead with a +46 over average effort. In Division 1, Viking Lanes PC rolled within 22 pins of their team average for the first week lead. Team EBI, from the Bullseye Masters league at Ten Pin Alley sets the pace in the new Declared Scratch division with 3,411.
One honor score was shot by Viking Lanes PC member Tim Gille. Tim made a ball change for the third game and even remarked (as we are prone to do) that he "needed a 300 just to hit average". He then proceeded to rattle off the first 11 strikes before a 10 pin denied him perfection.
Kevin Thompson takes the early lead in All Events with a 741 set in the team event. With back to back 254 games to start the series, Thompson actually had a real shot at this unusual triplicate if he could have struck out the final frame. But, a nine count on the first ball in the 10th denied the rarity. Leann Butts is currently three pins back with a 738 series. Scott Erickson and Casey Gibney round out the four 700 series for the weekend.

League Officers Dominate Madison BOD's
League officers redeemed themselves in the 2009-10 League Officer Sweeper at Bowling Green on November 15. Last year, the top cash positions were dominated by MBA Directors. MBA Director and Hall of Fame member Mark Habich was the 2008-09 winner and looked forward to defending his title. Alas, directors were practically nowhere to be found in the upper standings this year.
Senior City Tournament Concludes
The Senior Association Championships final results are posted. This year, 28 teams participated - up from 21 last year.
Congratulations to Don Bartnick for the sole honor score of the tournament - a 298 in singles.
LaCoursiere Wins Senior Masters

Not to be outdone by the 10th frame drama of the inaugural MBA "Regular" Masters, the first Senior Masters provided plenty of its own.
The tournament drew only 19 competitors but that took nothing away from the competition. The event was contested on a challenging condition, the Kegel Middle Road pattern. This pattern kept typical runaway league scoring in check, and provided a fair condition.
The first round cut for the top five bowlers was +55 and ended with a tie for the fifth spot. A 9th and 10th frame roll-off was conducted between Mark Recknagel and Dave Shaw.
